ElleyMate™

How It Works

A protected space for charging your electronics. The protective mechanism requires no electrical power.

ELLEYMATE™ · PROTECTED CHARGING

A protected space for charging your electronics.

ElleyMate™ provides a protected internal space for charging and storing portable electronics. When the temperature inside the device rises, it responds mechanically by closing the protected space and releasing a loose inert mineral medium, helping to limit the spread of early-stage fire effects.

The protective mechanism requires no electrical power.

Suitability for specific devices, batteries and charging arrangements depends on the specifications and instructions for each model.

Suitability depends on the particular workplace assessment; the product is not itself a risk assessment.

A suitable and sufficient workplace risk assessment identifies real hazards and leads to proportionate, workable controls. With its thoughtful localized design, straightforward placement and accessible pricing, ElleyMate™ can be considered as one supplementary protective measure in battery-charging areas.

Thermal runaway in lithium-ion batteries can lead to overheating, smoke and fire. A portable fire extinguisher requires manual action; ElleyMate is supplementary mechanical protection inside a protected space.

Indicative comparison of protection approaches

This compares specific functions, not overall quality. Each icon answers the question expressed by its column heading; results may differ by product design.

A suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment may consider fire extinguishers, automatic fire extinguishing systems and additional protection for lithium-ion battery charging. ElleyMate offers supplementary local mechanical protection within its protected space; it does not replace required fire-fighting equipment or the risk assessment itself.

What the pictograms mean in practice

ElleyMate™: Automatic local protection of a protected internal space. At elevated temperature, the mechanism responds and releases loose inert mineral medium into that space. It can react without an operator. The medium is intended to remain inside the device; inspection and cleanup are needed after activation. This does not guarantee that no damage occurs nearby.

Portable fire extinguisher: Manual intervention after an incident is detected. Cleanup and secondary effects depend on the agent used, such as powder, water, foam or CO₂.

Sprinkler system: A fixed installation. Individual heads react to heat according to their design and use water in the activated area; coverage and integration depend on the project.

ELIDE FIRE® / extinguishing ball: When installed in a fixed position, ELIDE FIRE® can activate automatically upon direct flame contact, without an operator; manual deployment is also possible. Activation disperses powder agent into the surrounding space and leaves residue. No unverified claim of spontaneous activation without flame is made here.

Fire blanket: Manual physical covering of a small accessible fire or a person whose clothing is burning. It does not release a separate extinguishing agent.

Fire-resistant cabinet / box: The basic role is usually passive separation or containment of the enclosed space. Active elements, signalling and consequences depend on the specific design.

Detector / alarm: Automatically detects a condition according to the sensor used and provides an alarm or signal. By itself it releases no extinguishing agent and does not suppress the fire.

These values assume correct installation and intended use. “Works without an operator” means no direct human intervention is needed during the event; normal inspection and maintenance may still be required. “Secondary damage nearby” refers to collateral effects of an agent or intervention outside the protected space, not damage caused by the fire itself. A cross for ElleyMate™ is not a guarantee of zero damage; the inert fill must be inspected and cleaned inside the device after activation.

Technical verification

Testing and functional verification

Selected principles and methods from technical standards and methodological documents inform the design of ElleyMate test procedures. The specific scope and results are recorded for each tested device type.

Fire and functional tests

  • EN 1869:2019
  • EN 3-7:2004+A1:2007
  • NTA 8133

Environmental tests

  • EN 60068-2-1
  • EN 60068-2-2
  • EN 60068-2-30

Mechanical resistance

  • EN 60068-2-75

Signalling outputs

  • EN 54-18

These documents are methodological references for selected tests, not claims of full compliance or product certification under these standards. NTA 8133 is informative; EN 54-18 is applied by analogy to verify the signalling output. This overview alone does not establish that every listed test has been performed or passed.

ElleyMate at School

On the way to school, the phone falls to the ground. The phones are accepted by the school caretaker and prepared for safe storage.ElleyMate closes the protected space and helps limit the spread of smoke and flames.

On the way to school, Tomáš drops his phone onto a hard pavement. At first glance, it still works, but hidden battery damage is not always visible. At school, students who bring phones hand them over to the school caretaker, who stores them in ElleyMate.

ElleyMate in an Accounting Office

Eva brings an ElleyMate EM0919 into the accounting office. For now, Anna sees the new “phone box” as just another unnecessary gadget.ElleyMate reacts to the thermal event, closes the protected space and releases an inert granular filling that helps limit the spread of flames, smoke and heat.Acting with good intentions, Martin carries the activated ElleyMate out to the courtyard. This is not the recommended procedure: an activated device should not be moved until it has fully cooled and shows no signs of an ongoing thermal event.

Eva runs a small accounting office where, alongside computers and phones, years of accounting records are also kept. When an acquaintance tells her that his company uses the larger ElleyMate EM3590 and is happy with it, she decides to try the smaller EM0919. Anna is not enthusiastic about the new rule at first: phones and power banks that are charging unattended should be placed inside ElleyMate.

Dropped tool in the assembly hall

One cordless screwdriver falls onto the concrete floor. It appears to work normally, but the impact hits the battery area. The connected signalling system reports the ElleyMate status change to the security room. The next morning, Thomas and Daniel review the incident footage. Production is running normally and the hall shows no visible damage.

In the assembly hall of a professional drone manufacturer, Sofia and Amina work with cordless screwdrivers. During the shift, one screwdriver falls onto the concrete floor. The tool appears to be fine, so at the end of the shift its removable battery is placed together with the others into chargers located inside an ElleyMate EM3590s.
