The story behind it
Eva runs a small accounting office where, alongside computers and phones, years of accounting records are also kept. When an acquaintance tells her that his company uses the larger ElleyMate EM3590 and is happy with it, she decides to try the smaller EM0919. Anna is not enthusiastic about the new rule at first: phones and power banks that are charging unattended should be placed inside ElleyMate. She soon discovers that it is actually convenient. Her older phone already has a tired battery, and the wireless charger inside ElleyMate gives her an easy place to leave it and top it up during the day. One day she leaves the phone charging inside and steps into Eva’s neighbouring office for a moment. That is when the phone begins to smoke and a thermal event develops inside the protected space. ElleyMate reacts automatically, closes the protected space and releases an inert granular filling that helps limit the spread of flames, smoke and heat to the surroundings. The connected signalling system reports the change of state. Martin, the building manager, calls the fire brigade. Acting with good intentions, he carries the device out to the courtyard, even though an activated device should not be moved until it has fully cooled and shows no signs of an ongoing thermal event. A firefighter then checks ElleyMate with a thermal camera and explains the correct procedure. Once fully cooled, the device is cleaned, inspected, refilled with the specified material and fitted with a new trigger fuse. A few days later it is back in its original place, and Anna puts her new phone inside without hesitation. One phone was lost. The office was not.
